Charlotte Taylor is 18, nearly 19 in fact, certainly too old in her opinion to need a tutor. But when she fails her exams and really has to pass the retakes, her concerned parents call for outside assistance. At the same time the newly married Taylors are going on honeymoon, but leaving Charlotte behind in the care of her new tutor.Unfortunately, and unknown to Charlotte, her new tutor is her same strict, no-nonsense old tutor from a few years ago! Miss Poulter is most definitely old school. Her remedy for Charlotte’s ‘backsliding’, as she likes to think of it, is hard work and lots of it, coupled with a return to school uniforms, strict discipline and early bed-times. Miss Poulter makes it clear from the outset that she’s a Governess, not a mere tutorCharlotte, sadly, is quite a weak-willed insignificant little thing. Miss Poulter knows very well that Charlotte will do whatever she’s told, whenever she’s told to do it. Her hold over the young woman increases. Menial chores as well as lessons are now included in her day to day routine. And then Charlotte’s parents are unavoidably delayed overseas. Miss Poulter takes the opportunity to take Charlotte to her own house where discipline is ratcheted up even further. She’s such a cute little thing! When Miss Poulter finds Charlotte’s private diary, the calculating Governess wants to be more than just the pretty young girl’s disciplinarian, she wants to be her new best friend.
